Note from Coach K

Greetings to all parents of traveling league players,

What a great time of the year! In my 40th year of coaching basketball, I still feel the excitement of the start of another basketball season. I hope you as parents, feel that same enthusiasm.

Some things to keep in mind during your season, whether it is your first or whether you are a veteran:

You are the most important person in your son’s basketball experience. If you are positive, he will be positive and have a great experience. If you are negative, he will also become negative and will eventually lose interest in a great sport. Don’t be hard on him, but always encourage. He is not a professional and will make lots of mistakes. Be encouraging.

Support the coach. He is a volunteer and is doing this because he loves the game. He is not a professional. He will make mistakes. Be encouraging. Thank him for his efforts.

Attend your son’s games. The season is long and there will be lots of sacrifice, but it will mean so much to your son. I still have great memories of my parents being at almost every game I played. It meant a lot to me and will mean a lot to your son.

Be active in the basketball association. We need you. Help at the tournaments, volunteer when you can at events, like our golf tournament and our Caches for Cancer night. Come to Saber Basketball games and be a great fan.

Shakopee Basketball is lucky to have each one of you. Thank you for your support. I wish you the best this season. Get involved. Make it your best season! We never know when the ride will end.
